I am trying to slow down my colored rockets to use them as engines in spinners. They are BaNo3 and strontium nitrate based. What is the best way of doing this?
Posted by Lenny on 11/30/2008 07:20:59
add more fuel or less oxidizer. depends on the composition though. you cant really alter a system like velines color system. What comp are you using?
Posted by Dan on 12/07/2008 19:24:02
How much, and what grade of powder is safe for the steel big daddy thundermug?
Posted by Rick Braun on 01/05/2009 22:13:52
Any type of BP will work but the finest works best. Also there is no set amount to use in it. This unit cannot be blown up with BP. You could not put enough into it to blow it up. It is built very sturdy.

Ummm Hi everybody,
I puchased some firecrackers and paper caps awhile back and i am a little confused on how to put it all together. I have the 5/8" tubes and the caps that go with and some fuse i was wondering how to put it all together. Mainly just the cap on the end so they blow up well.
Thanks

HEY THERE, I HEARD ABOUT THIS SITE FROM MY UNCLE IN VEGAS AND I'M ABOUT TO ORDER FOR THE FIRST TIME. I'LL LET EVERYONE KNOW HOW IT WORKS OUT.
Posted by JOSE on 04/15/2009 19:24:18
I bought a few different size tubes and some of the non-waterproof Chinese fuse. The fuse works great, but it burns REALLY fast compared to the waterproof stuff. The tubes are HIGH quality, I am definitely satisfied with all the products I purchased here. Any one got any good suggestions for flash powder comps? I'm using the standard 70/30 potassium perchlorate and German blackhead aluminum powder. I'm wondering if there is a better formula for a louder result.

@ SpunOne If I were you I wouldn't discuss illegal actions here. You may just ruined your chance of buying anything else. Go to the main page and read the red font at the bottom.

Pyrocreations is very good, great products and info. I don't have to wait long for my order (unlike other websites) these guys rule.
Posted by cus on 04/28/2009 16:16:01
@SpunOne> Im not an illegal firework maker, but I know the 66/33 (twice as much pp. as al. powder) is a much brighter and more powerful flash powder formula than many

Can anyone tell me how to get the best results from the little brother thunder mug. What grade black powder should I use? How much? And what type of wadding? So far the results have been disapointing. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm new, but love BIG BOOMERS !! I'm using 3/4" ID X 3.5" tubes. 1/8" waterproof with BR of approx 28'sec. 4FFFF black. How long/fine should I mill it? What is the best medium for securiong the end plugs, how much pressure should be applied. I open for any expert opinions.
Posted by Dave on 06/15/2009 16:47:34
I found the answear to my own questions on the little brother thunder mug and the true colors mug. I used 4F BP. 2 Table spoons in the true colors mug. I used wadding made from flame retardant material. In my case some old shirts from tyndale company used by electrical workers.I roll them up like a tootsie roll and pack them in the barrel. There is no burning paper to worry about. They open up and fall to the ground and can be used many times. This method worked in the little brother mug also. Cut up wool socks are also fairly flame resistant also. Try it out.

This is the best helicopter instructions I've seen. I've been all over the web and this is the best. They work grate and are easy to make. I found it by accident. It should be linked to your site. http://www.pyrocreations.com/buzz_bombs__tourbillions

Do you guys know how to make colored smoke bombs with dye? I heard that the potassium nitrate/sugar/organic dye doesn't work as a smoke formula.
Posted by Quinn on 10/12/2009 14:56:49
the potassium nitrate/sugar combo works great for me.i use a toilet paper roll as a container and they burn for about 1 minute.

Recently purchased True Colors and Little Brother mugs. Great service, prompt communication, fine products! 70 grains of FFFFg in the Little Brother and 700 grains of FFFFg in the True Colors under cloth wads giving excellent results.

Recently purchased a large order of fuse. There was a mixup with the order but with one email Steve was all over it! Steve wend above and beyond the call of duty by replacing the damaged fuse with premium fuse at no charge. Five years ago I probably would not have thought twice about this transaction. However, in this near depression economy, getting this kind of customer service is near unheard of! Thank you sir, you have a customer for life.

I bought the mini garrison salute cannon and the black powder kit, followed the instructions for making the powder, followed the written instructions that came with the cannon and didn't get a boom at all.. kind of a dull thud with some flash. Didn't get emailed any additional instructions, have no idea what I need to do to make it go bang. Can someone PLEASE help? I searched this blog and found nothing to help me.
Posted by Richard on 06/28/2010 18:13:38
I to was confused when purchasing the true colors mug and powder kit. You can not use that home made powder with the cannon. you need to get a fff or a ffff powder to make it work. I put 2 tbls of 4f goex in and made a cardboard plug and packed it hard then put a rolled up cotton sock as a finle plug. WOW! it sounded better than my other bang toys I've made.

Posted by mike matteo on 07/25/2010 18:48:51
I am sure no one has! We do not do that. If you would email us we would be glad to take care of whatever the situation if it was our mistake. Were not in the business to rip people off. Please send a email to sales@pyrocreations.com with your order ID# and I will look into this. I did not have to approve your post although I did since I found it interesting that you say we rip people off.

I would like to say, keep up the good work. The paper tubes and end plugs were the best in quality that I have found. I received my order super fast. I will continue to place future orders from here and no where else. Oh I almost forgot the fuse I got was also top notch too. But I did have a miss fire, But could have been my fault.

THANK YOU very much a EXTREMELY happy customer.

If you think you got ripped off there must be some kind of misunderstanding. I have had nothing but grate service and product at pyrocreations. I have found Steve to be pretty accessable. So if you have a problem give him a call. Hope things work out.

Hey all. Want noise? Try the 1/4 x 10' paper wrap crackling fuse on page 3 in the fuse section. It is pretty loud. Try a small piece first to get an idea because once you light that ten foot piece all heck brakes loose. I lit a 1 foot piece at night just to try it out. well I mean to tell you the dogs were barking the lights started coming on all over the nieghbor hood. I had to put the garbage can over it to muffle it. It last a while. It even has an eyelet on it so you can hang it. You won't be disappointed. BE SAFE. And save me some.

If I'm mixing bulk 100 grams batches of Potassium Percolate and alum. According to the my 70/30 means 70% Percolate and 30% alum. It this correct for safe stable mixture. Smaller mixtures according to the blogs I'm wrong.
Posted by Jay on 06/09/2011 11:53:02
with the cannon such as the big daddy could you (built the same way)have a 3 foot barrel and be safe? yet being longer and would you gain a advantage of it being louder?
Posted by Scott on 06/27/2011 17:35:32
I purchased some green and silver flying fish fuse from this site. The brand name was Wise Guy. The fuse is very low quality and does not have good propulsion. I will not buy this fuse again.

Am just learning about the thundermugs. Does the boom from the Big Daddy equal or exceed the boom from the old cherry bombs or M-80s? Also, can Pyrodex be used in lieu of the black powder? Thanks
Posted by Greg on 07/12/2011 15:06:34
i dont use black powder in my thunder mugs i found that one tablespoon of flash powder with no wadding and do not pack it works 100 times better than black powder... i have been buying the powder from a buddy does anyone know they best mix and what ratios i should use..and how can i get a bright flash with it.. please e mail me at j3110@rocketmail.com

Posted by bones on 08/26/2011 23:39:19
"Flash Powder", why NOT make it? 1) It's Extremely DANGEROUS! 2) It's highly illegal! (Part 1) Why risk any part of your anatomy or years of your life and earnings, to do something "STUPID"? You do NOT need to make flash powder! Why? You can get excellent results from black powder!...How? Well I came up( by accident) with a mixture that not only LOOKS like the F/P, it acts suspiciously like it, and you can make it even more 'energetic' by a simple addition. When you make your black powder, first make sure you have the finest possible powdered ingredients. Use a coffee grinder ( 1 for each chemical to keep them separate!) After running them thru the grinder for 30 seconds (No more!) Then pour them into separate containers...
Posted by Bill B. on 12/01/2011 21:24:25
"Flash Powder", why NOT make it? (Part 2) After you have all 3 finely powdered, then weigh them separately. Mix the powders "gently" into one container. NOW, you ball mill those powders together, and use MARBLES for the milling media. ( Yup, Glass marbles!) Or you may get a sudden EDUCATION you do NOT want! I use 100 marbles per 3lb. mill jar. Only fill the mill jar 1/2 way with the mix. Too much and it's not going to work right.
Posted by Bill B. on 12/01/2011 21:29:27
"Flash Powder", why NOT make it? (part 3) Leave the ball mill running for 4 hours! The regular 2 hours is for making standard black powder...BUT, you wanted something else right? Ok then, pay attention! When you open the ball mill you'll find a light greyish, very fine powder...! I call this stuff COYOTE powder...Why? It's absolutely WILD! No addition of any water, no red gum, no wetting and screening into granules or grains...It's ready and it's HOTTTT! Test a small amount, I use 1/4-1/2tsp of this in a piece of tissue paper and use a fuse to ignite it...See what you think! Now if it's NOT quite HOT enough for you, then go right ahead and add some finely powdered aluminum or magnesium (or use what I did, add magnalium powder.)
Posted by Bill B. on 12/01/2011 21:32:24
"Flash Powder", why NOT make it? (Part 4) 2 tbsp of that stuff added to a half pound of the mix will be the "ZING" you want. Now, this stuff is NOT to be trifled with, it's NOT a toy by any means and it is very SENSITIVE and energetic, and can be DANGEROUS! Think of it as you would FP. No friction, NO shock and NO fooling around. It's legal and it's as good as you dare to PLAY with. I've made 20 lbs of this stuff and yes the ballmills are the way to go, IF you do it correctly!
Posted by Bill B. on 12/01/2011 21:37:13
"Flash Powder", why NOT make it? (Part 5) I have made at least 100 lbs of black powder by ball milling and then wetting and screening, I have even "corned" my powders first. I hate the mess and the work involved. I no longer make BLACK powder...I now only make the COYOTE type! Good luck and STAY SAFE! (REMEMBER: keep the ballmill/s covered and clear of anyone and anything! STUFF HAPPENS!)
Posted by Bill B. on 12/01/2011 21:39:10
"flash power",If you make "FP",you should mix it in a plastic ziplog bag,BUT make sure you spray the plastic bag with statis guard, this will prevent any powder from igniting.
Posted by cosmodem on 12/02/2011 16:45:27
Still with the F/P eh? Well, Rotsa Ruck! I've been making powders since I was 10 and I'm now 60,and still I have all my fingers, eyes, etc... If you insist on making F/P, then at the very least, do it the way the PRO's do it....Place the 2 chemicals on a sheet of paper that has a fold in the center ( think newsprint!)and GENTLY intermix the 2 by slowly allowing one chemical to flow into the other....Now, one pyroguild master: "Mr. Ned Gorski" has used the stuff before and he doesn't mix the 2 at all, rather keeping them separated by a layer of "cornflakes" until the rocket he uses to get it up into the air, and has a burst charge initiates it!
Posted by Bill B. on 12/08/2011 21:52:40
Now think about that... The man is a PROFESSIONAL, so if he won't mix the 2 chemicals together, then why should you? You only get 1 mistake..."1 spark, 1 small shock, 1 tiny amount of friction", and then you won't be doing it again! Now, for those of you here that continue to ask how to do it and what the measurements of what chemicals are required, then I suggest you go and research Ned Gorski.....He tells all, and he warns you.... After all, "natural selection" takes out the wannabe's! Don't be ignorant, get educated!
Posted by Bill B. on 12/08/2011 21:53:22
Guys, you need to listen to Bill re:mixing FP. IF you insist on making the stuff, ball milling is a very risky way to do it. Treat it with respect....gently!. You CANNOT be TOO careful. Check this out: http://www.amateurpyro.com/forums/topic/4605-ball-mill-explosion/
