How to make a pin wheel using our special flying fish fuse.
What you will need: You will need our special flying fish fuse, a Piece of cardboard, (size depends on the size of pin wheel you plan to make) 1 Hot glue gun, 1 Drinking straw and a pair of scissors.
1st picture you will see about a 10" x 10" piece of cardboard with a household bowl used as a stencil to make a circle. The bowl I used was about 7 1/2" across. 2nd picture shows us cutting out the circle. 3rd picture is showing how you can find the very center of the circle. Just use a straight edge of some sort and make a line from one side of the circle to the other down the center. Do another line crossing it the same way. Where they cross should be close to center. ( This is where your straw will go where the nail will ride) 4th Picture shows the straw being inserted into the wheel. You will have to either drill out your hole so the straw will fit snug or just wallow it out with a pen or something. Cut about a 1" piece of the drinking straw. This will be used as the center axis. When the wheel is finished you can hot glue the straw in place. (DO NOT GLUE THE STRAW UNTIL WHEEL IS FINISHED) Now you will need to cut the length of fuse you will need for the size pin wheel you are making. I used about 44" for my 7 1/2" Pin wheel. 5th Picture shows what you should have done by now. 6th picture is showing how you must bend the fuse so it will make the circle of the wheel. You must bend the fuse about every 1/4" the whole length so it can make the circle of the wheel. Don't worry, this will not harm the fuse. Now comes the fun part. 7th picture is showing how the fuse will be glued to the cardboard. Glue it about every 2" or so to insure it stays in place as it burns and spins. Leave enough at the beginning so you can bend it up so it can be easily lighted. Also make sure you do not put the fuse any closer then about 1/2" as you go around to keep it from lighting the other side as it spins and burns. You may also do the exact same thing to the other side of the wheel to intensify the effect. If you do this But make sure you start in the same place as the other so you can light them both at the same time. Now final insert your straw leaving about 1/2" sticking out from each side and glue it with hot glue. And the final picture shows the Finished wheel. You now get a nail that fits thru the straw and nail it to a temporary post, light and stand back. Remember, this is a novice pinn wheel. Don't expect a huge shower of sparks and for it to spinn at 90 miles an hour.
